Bonriki Inundation Vulnerability Assessment - Project Stakeholder Engagement Activities


This report provides a summary of the stakeholder engagement activities undertaken as part of the BIVA project, and documents key lessons learned and outcomes from these activities. The Bonriki Village community members played a key role in the implementation of the project. Community members participated in the school water science and mapping program, assisted with construction of new piezometers and data collection for the groundwater component, and shared their knowledge and experiences with regards to historical inundation events and coastal processes.

The Bonriki Inundation Vulnerability Assessment (BIVA) project aimed to improve understanding of the vulnerability of the Bonriki freshwater reserve to coastal hazards and climate variability and change. Improved knowledge of risks to this freshwater resource will enable better adaptation planning by the Government of Kiribati.

This BIVA project was supported by the Pacific-Australia Climate Change Science Adaptation Planning (PACCSAP) programme.
